Our Customised Button Badges: The Making Of

Welcome back to the School Stickers Blog, we’re talking all about our badges today, showing you how they’re made and explaining why they take a while to arrive after they’ve been ordered.

Customised Button Badges

Our most popular badges are our button badges, we make them on site here in the School Stickers Office.

Our button badges are made of 4 separate pieces which all get put into the red badge puncher you can see in the picture above. They are:

  • The back– this is the part of the badge with the pin on which holds the badges into place on school uniforms.IMG_1088
  • The front– a flat piece of metal which holds the design onto the back pin piece, bringing the badge together.
  • The design– this is a piece of circular paper printed with the desired design (pictured above) which is placed on top of the metal front.
  • The clear plastic front– This is the final piece which gets added into the stamping machine, this piece of plastic forms the front of the badge, making it shiny and protecting the printed designs from any damage.

All of our button badges are made by Beth and Dave who work downstairs, they’re badge making pros! We receive orders for anything from 60 to 1,000 button badges every day so we’ve made sure our badge making process is as efficient as possible.

Beth and Dave’s badge making system:
  • An order gets placed either online or over the telephone. This might be one of our website designs or a design made using our Sticker and Badge Maker.
  • That order is then logged through our computer system so that we can track where each order needs to be sent to.
  • Printed off, the orders make the short journey downstairs where they’re organised into priority order.
  • Beth and Dave then print off the desired badge designs, ready to start the long process of hand stamping each badge individually using our stamping machines.
  • Beth estimates it takes her 10 minutes to make an order of 20 badges.
  • Once an order of badges has been made, counted twice and quality control checked they get placed into their plastic bags and envelopes and get sent out by Kirsty, our Despatch Manager.
  • Then, depending on the delivery options chosen for the order, the badges will arrive ready to be handed out to well deserving pupils in schools all over the world.
