Three fifths of teenagers would rather play sport than a computer game

Olympic Press Release

The Rio Olympics started at the weekend, an opportunity to inspire young people to take an interest in sports, but it seems that most UK teenagers are already inspired.

A new survey of 2,037 secondary school pupils by School Stickers, has found that sport is so popular, that three fifths (62%) would rather play sport than a computer game and almost half (48%) would rather play sport than use social media.

However only a fifth (21%) would rather play sport than hang out with their friends.

Neil Hodges, Managing Director, School Stickers said, “Exercise is important for young people’s health and well-being, and it is great news that three fifths of teenagers prefer it to computer games and social media.

Mr Hodges continues, “However more needs to be done to ensure that the quarter (26%) of teenagers that would rather play computer games than sport, have the opportunity to see if there are sports that they might actually prefer. The Olympics, showcasing everything from swimming to mountain-biking, gymnastics to wrestling, and canoeing to table tennis, is a great place to start.”
