Road Safety week 2014 Ideas

Taking place from 17th – 23rd November is road safety week.

This years theme is Look Out For Each Other, aiming to make all road users, including pedestrians aware of things they can do to protect those around them.

Brake are calling on drivers to protect people on foot and bike by:

  • slowing down to 20 (mph) in communities
  • looking twice and taking it slow at junctions and bends
  • giving people plenty of room.

Brake are also asking that everyone put’s safety first and is considerate to one another, encouraging people on foot and bike to never take chances, and make sure they can be seen.

For teachers

Think!, the road safety educators have created a guide for teaching road safety across a wide range of age groups. Brake, the UK’s road safety charity have also devised a useful plan for young adults of up to 18 years old.

You can also register to get a free e-action pack which includes downloadable posters and activity suggestions.

Our stickers can be personalised with your schools name at no extra cost. Remember you can use our Sticker Maker to design your own stickers and button badges if you’re looking for something fully customised and tailored to your classroom. Our guide on how to use the sticker maker can be found here.

Food for thought

What do you think of this road safety video by Think?

A little haunting? I agree, however I think it would be effective, it certainly made me think about the way I cross the road. Maybe one to show to older pupils, let us know what type of reactions you get from it.
