All About Anti Bullying Week 2015

Welcome to the School Stickers Blog! Earlier this week we took a look at our Top 5 Anti Bullying Awareness Stickers and Badges. Today we’re here to share a little bit more about Anti Bullying Week, why it’s so important to promote anti bullying in your school and some simple classroom ideas. 

ABW_2015_Logo_Hashtag_CMYK_Black-1024x740Anti Bullying Week 2015 takes place from the 16th – 20th of November and will be celebrated in schools, nurseries, homes and youth groups amongst lots of other places.

This year anti bullying week is being coordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance with the theme being to make a noise about bullying and in turn raise awareness.

What are the aims of Anti Bullying Week 2015? 

  • IMG_3587To empower children and young people to make a noise and speak up about bullying- whether it’s happening to them or someone else, face-to-face or online.
  • To help parents and carers have conversation with their children about bullying.
  • To encourage “talking schools” where all children and young people are given a safe space to discuss bullying and other issues that affect their lives and are supported to report all forms of bullying.
  • To equip teachers to respond effectively when children tell them they’re being bullied.
  • To raise awareness of the impact of bullying on children’s lives- especially on mental health.


The Facts

  • 46% of children and young people say they’ve bullied at some point whilst at school
  • 16,000 young people aged 11-15 are absent from school at any one time due to bullying
  • There is a growing evidence base linking bullying to mental health problems which has changed both government and societal attitudes to bullying.
  • Children  bullied during their early years are up to three times more likely to self harm than their classmates when they reach adolescence.
  • Appearance is cited as the number 1 aggressor of bullying, with 51% saying they were bullied because of attitudes towards how they look.
  • 45% did not report bullying. 32% of which felt it would not be taken seriously, 32% were too embarrassed and 26% were scared of it getting worse.

Teachers Top Tips 

Make sure you download the full teachers tips resource from the Anti Bullying Alliance website here.

  • Make sure your pupils know how to report bullying and that support is advertised well.
  • Make sure every report of bullying is taken seriously.
  • Keep records of what has taken place and the actions taken.
  • Be clear on your response to bullying.
  • Don’t give up until the incident is resolved.

Raise Awareness
