Following that post we got in touch with Cancer Research UK to see what advice they could give you about keeping everyone safe during sports days.

Nicola Smith, Senior Health Information Officer at Cancer Research UK says:

Sports day is a great opportunity to get children excited about physical activity but don’t forget to keep the kids safe in the sun. It’s really important to provide shaded areas, encourage children to cover up and use sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and 4 or more stars for the parts they can’t cover.

Remember even on cloudy days the UV index can be strong enough for children to burn. So make sure you check the UV index online and if possible schedule outdoor activities before 11am or after 3pm when the sun will be less strong.
